UPCOMING
EVENTS AND PROGRAMS
Unless otherwise noted,
our free Summer programs are held in
our Church Street Museum.
Our July programs will be concerned with
Franconia Notch. On July
17th at 7:00pm, in the Museum on
Church
Street, Kimberly Jarvis will discuss her
recently published book: “Franconia Notch and The Women Who Saved
It”. The book describes
the efforts to preserve the Notch and the little known involvement
of the New Hampshire Federation of Women’s Clubs in that
effort. The following
day, Friday, July
18th, Dave Govatski, from Jefferson, and
Kim Jarvis, will lead a field trip in the Notch. It will depart from the
Cannon
Mountain
parking area at 9:45 am.
Part of the trip will include a short hike at the Summit of
Cannon. The field trip
is free but there will be a charge for the trip on the
Tram.
On Sat. July 12, the Northern
Forest Council will bring it's Ways of the Woods program to
Lincoln for the day. Our logging heritage will be the
subject of this day long event. A 40'
tractor/trailer with Forestry exhibits will be in town, we'll have
logging demonstrations and demonstrations of traditional
crafts. See page 1 of the Summer, 2008 Newsletter, for
details.
We’ll do another Antiques
Appraisal Day on Saturday, Sept.
20th.
Our appraisers for the day will be the well-known father-son
auctioneers, Archie and Josh Steenburgh, from Pike. They are kindly
donating their services for the day. The event will run from noon
to 3pm at the Museum on Church St. Last year’s event brought
some neat things out of area homes and collections. I hope that we’ll see some
valuable things on Sept. 20th. At the very least, we’ll
have some fun. And who knows what treasures may be donated for our
Silent Auction.
Also in the works is a Mid
November program on White Mountain maps and the history of
mapping in the region. Adam Apt curated last years' exhibition
on White Mountain maps at Harvard University and he also wrote the
chapter on maps in the recently published AMC book commemorating the
100th Anniversary of their White Mountain Guide
series. He'll present his well illustrated talk at a
date to be announced.
