Bill Gove is a retired forester who
has written three books on New Hampshire's logging railroads.
His first one was "J.E. Henry's Logging Railroads" and it
covered the Zealand Valley Railroad and the East Branch and Lincoln
Railroad.
His second book was "Logging Railroads of The Saco
Valley" and it covered a half dozen railroads in the Saco River
Valley area.
The third book, "Logging Railroads Along The Pemigewasset
River" was published in 2006.
Each of the three books is heavily illustrated,
with maps and vintage photographs. Bill has donated the
photographs he used for the first and third books listed above to
the Upper Pemigewasset Historical Society. A representative
selection has been uploaded and can be viewed by using the links
below.
In addition to the photos donated by Bill Gove, the
Society has an extensive collection of images relating to logging,
railroads, hotels, natural attractions, schools, town
buildings, events, and other activities in the Upper
Pemigewasset region of the White Mountains. This collection is
growing and being added to as material becomes
available.
There are surprisingly few photos of J.E. Henry's
operations in Zealand or the Zealand Valley Railroad. If you
have any, we'd be most interested in seeing them.
